What to expect when visiting a vineyard
If you haven’t already heard the news, we are offering free tours and tastings as part of English Wine Week here on June 18, 20 and 22. Tickets for these dates are available to book here, but hurry, as spaces are limited!
If you’ve never visited us, or any other vineyard before, then you might be wondering what a visit entails and what you should expect.
We’ve put together some answers to some of the top questions you might have, so please read on to find out more.
Do I need a knowledge of wine?
To put it simply, no. The whole point of visiting a vineyard and taking part in tastings is to learn, so a prior knowledge of wine is not needed at all.
We’re very happy to tell you all about the different grapes used to make our wines and the history behind them.
If you do have a knowledge of wine, then don’t let this put you off visiting either, as we love to discuss all things wine with anyone and, you never know, you may learn something new on the day.
What should I wear?
Sensible shoes are a must when touring a vineyard. The ground can be rough and uneven and, depending on the weather, sometimes muddy too, so leave the white trainers or heels at home, and opt for something sturdy and comfortable.
If it’s going to be a hot day, please bring a hat, sunglasses and sun cream.
As we can’t always rely on the great British weather, it’s advisable to bring a brolly and waterproof coat/jacket, even some wellies if you fancy.
If you’re partial to a spritz of perfume before leaving the house and adding a touch of red lippy – please don’t, as perfume can detract from the aromas of the wines and lipstick is very tricky to clean off glasses. Come out made-up as if you’re going on a country stroll!
Other top tips!
- Try as many wines as you can, even if you think you aren’t going to like them. You might surprise yourself.
- Ask as many questions as possible. No question is too silly.
- Relax and enjoy the ambience of the vineyard.
- Bring some spending money, so you can purchase a bottle of your favourite wine.
