Top tips for wines at weddings
So, your big day is approaching and you’re thinking about what wines to serve to your guests with their meals and for the rest of the evening.
More than 80% of couples now opt to ‘bring their own booze’ rather than relying on venues to supply it, often at a much greater cost, but how much wine should you purchase? What else should you consider?
Follow our handy tips below:
- Red, white or rosé? This is very much dependent on the time of year. In the autumn/winter, people are more likely to drink red, but on a hot summers’ day, they are more likely to opt for a refreshing white or a rosé.
- Don’t forget your toasting drinks. If you want your guests to toast the happy couple, they should do so with a glass of something special. This can be half full, so generally it’s advised to plan for one bottle per every two guests for toasting – this doesn’t have to be fizzy.
- Consider your food. You probably won’t want to serve anything too heavy, so keep it light and refreshing. Our Bacchus and Ortega wines work wonderfully with chicken and fish dishes.
- Always buy more than you think you need. There’s nothing worse than your guest’s glasses running dry and them searching for more wine. Divide your number of guests by 2.15 to figure out how many bottles to buy and then round up. For example, if you have 100 guests, you should expect to purchase around 46 bottles, which you should ideally round up to 50.
